Ricardo Chapa, MD, FAAP
Dr. Ricardo (Rick) Chapa was born and raised in Laredo, TX were he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Texas A&M International University. He then obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. His fate happily brought him to Austin through the difficult circumstances of Hurricane Ike, where he was able to complete his Pediatric Residency at Dell Children’s Medical Center at Austin.
He has been a part of the Southwest Pediatrics family since 2015. You may see him mentoring medical students as a Clinical Assistant Professor for Texas A&M College of Medicine and frequently mentors medical students.
Dr. Chapa and his family live in the Belterra neighborhood. He and his wife have been happily married since 2011 and have two beautiful, rambunctious girls, Juliet and Abigail. Although they take up most of their free time, when Dr. Chapa and his wife find time for a date they enjoy watching movies, trying out new restaurants in town, or going to a Master Pancake show at the Alamo Drafthouse.
If you ask Dr. Chapa why he decided to become a pediatrician he will say, “Kids are awesome! They are fun, playful, and sincere. I enjoy watching them grow, helping them heal, and they allow me to be silly at work.”
